many standardised battery assemblies include a protection circuit within the battery. if the option is there we'd prefer withthan without for sure!
even that said normally you don't want to fall back on that day in day out, just my cautious approach
On the plus side it looks like most of the mods are based around a rock solid looking metal enclosure. its either safer or half way to a pipe bomb I cant decide !!
happy to chip in with any input along the way. I think the ability to tweak the coils and wicks should be very interesting, though once you know what works well the better electronics could be added... I don't think it will have any detrimental effect, just improve consistency.

hi GrowGoddess...
can I check something with you. the stuff I have created, trying to work up to be confident to try it. one thing I tried first was warming up a few drops on a spoon. as it gets hotter and hotter some small bubbles form and dissipate, around the same point were starting to get lots of vapour off it. smell is fantastic actually. now am I to worry about those bubbles being the last of butane or iso im not sure.
they were small and I have not manage to make the liquid catch light with a naked flame either, so probably im good.
do your liquids act the same, or no bubble formation at all?

I am thinking you are good. Yes, with my finished iso oil, it will bubble with heat applied. With iso oil and you go to vape it, if it is not purged, you will probably notice it on the inhale. It will most likely gag you.
I would like to add though that I do not have any experience with BHO. Never made it before.

great, thanks for confirming. im just being careful I guesse. I did spend days purging slowly then whacked up the heat to around 80-90 celcius for a few hours. butane or iso should not have been able to make it through. Maybe lost some potency but it doesn't really matter right now. I will go for vacuum purge both for butane and iso next time to get it done more surely in shorter time and lower temp. I think the oil will be lighter in colour in that case.

have you tried PEG400 as an alternative to the PG btw? may make for an interesting test, I've heard some good things but nothing concrete about how well it works in our kind of mixtures, half finished threads here and there... id be tempted to put the two side to side once there is enough oil to work with.

I just looked at the links you posted earlier. Looks like somebody beat me to the time lapse. I have been wanting to do that for quite some time now. I have all of the equipment. I used to be in to broadcasting an IP camera. I have an AXIS 213 PTZ set up. Pan, Tilt, Zoom. I never got around to hooking it up in the growroom. Time lapse is really cool, I really wanted to do that in my flower room.
With QWISO, I would not recommend heat or vacuum purging. I can't say that I have tried it though. Since I have been consuming so much oil, the fact that I am using solvents like iso does give me some concern over long term daily use. What I did to make me feel 100% confident is dilute the oil with 190 proof or higher grain alcohol, then purge it a second time being careful of the heat. I have also used the 190 proof grain alcohol to winterize my iso oil then purge. The grain alcohol works great for winterizing iso oils. It makes it safer in my opinion.
So far, my favorite grain alcohol is 96% Polomos Spirytus Rektyfikowany REctified Spirit, I believe it is a Polish Vodka.
I have only tried this once so I don't have a full opinion, but I do have a first impression. The other day for the first time making my e-cannabis oil, mixing it with PG USP I also added around 5% of the 96% grain alcohol into the mixture. It seemed to work great and I do not taste the alcohol. It may be an improvement, but I am not sure yet. Only time will tell.

thanks, went kind of full on with the timelapse, the grow lighting is sync'd to the camera also, it flips into white lighting mode at each shot. looking nice, will be great to see it start to finish eventually.
iso, yes Iam being wary also, hence the brute force method of getting it out, taking it close to its boiling point.
with QWISO, my thoughts were that the iso is not really avoided.. I mean, iso then purge then grain alcohol then purge, is it much better than BHO then iso? I guesse either has been through a best effort iso purge.
the idea with the vac purge was to manage the fullest purge at a low temperature, same as common in BHO I think would apply also to iso. I have to do a little more reading though.

I think it might be mandatory to vac purge BHO, but I am not really educated enough to know for sure.With QWISO I don't think it is necessary.
I did read something that concerned me about BHO. A guy said he worked for a company that fills the small butane cans. He said that they have to inject some kind of poisonous gas into the can first before they fill it with butane. He also stated that it does not matter how refined the butane is, the initial injected gas is still in there. I don't know how much truth there is to it, but nobody was challenging his claim. Everybody did agree that the BHO is safe using industrial tanks, 99% pure butane. That can get very expensive.
That is why I have not done BHO. To do it the way I would want to would cost thousands just in the equipment. I am pretty confident that the iso oil (QWISO hash) does not have those issues. Just my take on it from the research I have done.
The RSO and QWISO have been coming out so good for me I felt no need to pursue BHO.
A lot of people like to let their iso hash (QWISO) just sit out and air dry until it is like shatter. So much so that you need a razor blade to scrape it.
I must say though, some of the best oil pics I have seen were BHO.
